Oakland County Architect Describes Lake Orion Project

Oakland County Architect

This 2,200 square-foot vacation home, located on Lake Orion in Oakland County, sits on a half acre and is truly unique as it is surrounded by over 400 feet of shoreline.  Made for large parties and private family gatherings, the drive up to boat bar, parking for kayaks, jets skiis and boats provides nonstop entertainment on the lake.

The soft modern, prairie style home boasts 2 bedrooms, a metal roof, clear cedar siding, fon du lac stone, coorigated metal siding, a brand new pool and retractable doors out to pool deck.

The gorgeous floor to ceiling glass walls, a signature feature for AZD Associates, surround the entire exterior and provide breathtaking views of the lake at every angle. Storage areas were strategically placed away from perimeter walls for privacy.

Although the landscaping looks natural, local landscaping company, Environmental Artists put some serious creative design behind it, maximizing the natural elements while complimenting the home’s exterior.

Since the only access to the residence is by boat, one of the unique challenges of building the home was bringing in materials, such as concrete trucks and lumber.

AZD solved this building challenge in several ways. In the winter, building materials were brought over the ice after the lake had frozen, including dumpsters, excavators and even a concrete truck. In the summer months, they built an 120 foot long dock to carry materials back and forth to the island. They also carried larger items over on a pontoon boat.
